UNACCOMPANIED MINORS
With the Unaccompanied Minor service at KLM Airlines Reservations, you can rest assured that your child will travel safely even if he is alone. At KLM, booking the service is mandatory for children aged 5 up to and including 14 who are travelling alone, or travelling in a different travel class as that of a parent or accompanying adult. Before departure and after arrival, the staff at KLM, will accompany your child to and from the aircraft, even in the case of delay. During the flight, the cabin attendants at KLM will keep a close eye on your child. You will updated time and again by telephone, e-mail and text message about any update in KLM Airlines Flight Status schedule. At the end of the journey, the staff at KLM, will personally accompany your child to the person you have authorized to collect him or her.
For children aged 15 up to and including 17 years old, the service is completely optional. If you no intimation is done before the time of booking, the airlines, will consider your child an adult passenger. In case of flight delay or cancellation, the staff will positively assist, if your child mentions his or her age and need for assistance to the staff at KLM Airlines Reservations. However, for supervision in case of flight disruptions, it is advisable to book the Unaccompanied Minor service.
HOW THE UNACCOMPANIED MINOR SERVICE WORKS
Check-in and at the airport
To accompany your child during their journey, you need to authorize the team at KLM Airlines by handing in 4 filled out and signed copies of the Handling Advice form at the check-in desk at the airport. You just have to fill out the form online, or print the form and fill it out by hand. Please make sure that you sign all the copies and bring an up to date version of the form available at our site with you to the airport. During online check-in, you will only get a check-in confirmation, but no boarding pass. However you will get the boarding pass at the check-in desk when you are at the airport. Either a parent or some guardian aged 18 years or older is mandatory to bring the child to the check-in desk at least 2.5 hours before departure. Also, it is necessary for the person bringing the child to the airport needs to bring a valid identification proof and stay at the airport until the child’s flight has departed.
Arrival
Upon arrival, the staff at KLM Airlines Reservations will bring your child to the person you have authorized to pick him or her up, as per the Handling Advice form. This person needs to carry a valid type of identification. The Airlines will not leave your child with anyone representing a company or organization.
